The Pests That Threaten Kentucky Grain, Distilling & Food Plants
University of Kentucky Extension flags grain weevils (most often in corn) and the lesser grain borer (more often in wheat) as the state’s most dangerous stored-grain pests — internal feeders that develop inside sound kernels. In mills, feed operations, distillery grain systems, and food plants, the red and confused flour beetles, flat and rusty grain beetles, and the Indianmeal moth work dust, fines, and the grain surface — the moth’s webbing can even block aeration and fumigation.
